Viet Nam combats desertification
In order to fulfill its membership responsibilities and requirements of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has developed and submitted to the Prime Minister for promulgation a national action plan to prevent and control the desertification in the period 2006-2010 and orientation to 2020; The project identifies voluntary goals to balance national land degradation in the period 2017-2020, with a vision to 2030.
To fulfill its committed obligations under the Convention, Viet Nam has developed and implemented a National Action Program on Desertification Prevention and Control for the period 2006 - 2010 and orientation to 2020 with many contents.
The action program has achieved the following main results: perfecting the legal basis for the protection of land resources, forest resources and water resources to prevent and combat desertification; raise awareness, train human resources and strengthen material and technical foundations, research facilities to serve the prevention and combat of desertification; investigate and evaluate the situation of desertification and study to determine the main causes of desertification, propose solutions to prevent and combat desertification in Vietnam; organize economic activities, transfer technology to protect, manage and develop land, forest and water resources, contributing to socio-economic development, hunger eradication and poverty alleviation in related lands desertification; international cooperation to implement the Convention to Combat Desertification.
Currently, the Vietnam Administration of Forestry is developing a national drought plan and adjusting and updating the national action program on prevention and control of desertification in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030./.
