Dr. Do Nam Thang, an expert on environment and climate change, Australian National University has just made a number of proposals for cooperation between Viet Nam and Australia in climate change response.

           Firstly, in terms of capacity building to make the net zero emissions commitment, Australia can support training and experience sharing on policy development and implementation on climate change and energy transition for National Assembly deputies, provincial People's Councils, policy-making officials at ministries, central and local departments of Viet Nam. This training can be built on the basis of training programs supported by the Australian National University for countries in the region with funding from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Southeast Asia Energy Transformation Partnership.

           Secondly, cooperate in research and technology transfer in the following areas: wind and solar energy development policies, planning priority areas for renewable energy development, improving energy markets, developing development of energy storage battery systems and hydroelectricity, carbon capture and storage technology.

           Thirdly, promote investment cooperation in renewable energy combined with marine economic development, focusing on offshore wind power, mining important minerals for the development of renewable energy industry.

             Fourthly, establish a Cooperation Center on Climate Change, with the role of a focal point to coordinate and promote the aforementioned cooperation activities. This initiative can be developed on the basis of the Australian National University's Key Research Program on Non-carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific region.

              According to Australian National University environmental and climate change expert Do Nam Thang, Viet Nam and Australia are both determined and have made great efforts to minimize the impact of climate change. Both countries have the same goal of net zero emissions by 2050. Not only that, the two countries have the same advantage in renewable energy. Viet Nam and Australia both have great potential in solar and wind energy, especially offshore wind, and together achieve impressive numbers in renewable energy development.
