Launching project to improve adaptive capacity in Mekong Delta
The project "Improving the community's adaptive capacity and resilience under the impact of climate change (CC) in the Mekong Delta" called CoRe has recently officially kicked off in Viet Nam.
CoRe was built with the purpose of calling for and strengthening the participation and consensus of stakeholders in Can Tho city, especially youth and young leaders, to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by adverse impacts of climate change; enhance the role of youth in the Mekong Delta in supporting communities to cope with climate change more effectively. CoRe is sponsored by the Embassy of the United Kingdom and the Embassy of Denmark. CoRe is currently selecting 30 young people and young leaders to join the project.
The Mekong Delta is one of the three major deltas hardest hit by global climate change. In the Mekong Delta, climate change has caused complex risks to water resources such as sea level rise leading to saline intrusion, fresh water shortage causing drought, increasing temperature and annual tropical storms. Recent studies show that the vulnerability of communities affected by climate change impacts is increasing, so solutions to support communities to adapt and cope with climate change are essential.
