Climate-Smart Maps and Adaptation Plans in Viet Nam launched
On October 19, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, The CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the Biodiversity Alliance and International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) organized a Policy Consultation Workshop and launched a series of editions of Climate-Smart Maps and Adaptation Plans (CS-MAP).
Developed by the Department of Crop Production and CCAFS Southeast Asia, CS-MAP is a participatory approach that integrates local knowledge with scientific research to develop risk maps and adaptation plans. with climate change for rice production, suitable to the specific conditions of each locality.
CS-MAP has been effectively deployed in 5 ecoregions of Viet Nam to help farmers mitigate and respond to climate risks such as floods, droughts and salinity intrusion.
CS-MAP will help farmers plan appropriate production and improve the efficiency of land and water resource use. In addition, localities will have more bases to develop production plans for crops adapted to climate change. Thereby, improving the output as well as the quality of local agricultural products.
In the coming time, the Department of Crop Production will continue to work closely with CCAFS in Southeast Asia, the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and international organizations to expand the application of CS-MAP maps nationwide.
